So I finally finished She-Ra: Princesses of Power yesterday and, as expected, had Feelings about Adora and Catra. They have exactly the dynamic I am weak to: the shining idealist beloved by everyone and the nihilist best friend/enemy who gives a fuck about one (1) person in the entire world. A million other people have said this already, but Catra is such a messy and vulnerable and manipulative and ambitious character. It's amazing to see a female character portrayed like that anywhere at all, much less on a kid's show.
Anyway, I have a lot of thoughts about how Catra is not right exactly (or remotely), even if with the application of some sort of morality lens to the kingdom of Bright Moon, which I'm sure will happen given Catra's popularity (there was something about fascism in She-Ra a while back??). But goddammit Adora really went off with those kids way too easily. And I do feel Catra, hard. I just need a way to string all of these thoughts together with a plot, which I have been trying to find for half a day now. Wish me luck.
